I know fuck all about how these demons work, but how sure is anyone that they pass from person to person? Do we know how long Monika was actually possessed?
Late Sunday night and then to the next Sunday when we exorcised her. The demon would have passed to Prompto if he hadn't turned her down, but it spread to Nikkari instead on Monday night. He then passed it on on Tuesday, Even though the strands were separated and started making their way around the ship, Monika remained as the main host and ultimately acted as the killer on Thursday night.
Okay, see, that's the part I don't follow. How does it get passed around while staying in the main host?
[She shakes her head.]
I had a thought that the demons coming after us don't bounce between hosts at all... More like they've been possessed since Polly unleashed all that shit.
One of the theories I had was a master and a few servants. So, you're possibly right. Carlos did say that Polly unleashed a number they can't even tell us, but definitely more than one. And now that nobody's receiving the visions, it's going to be harder to track where the demons are manifesting. I think the smaller ones are leaving the hosts they infect, but there's no proof they aren't leaving something behind, too.
The visions and the paranoia stopped after you passed it on. But that still doesn't prove much.
[Ah, that analogy makes it click. She nods slowly.]
That's disheartening. So, the idea is we use the small fries to track the real problems? And we've got to play hide and seek with the big boys until we exorcise them all.
One of the things I like about you best is that you're smart. [Just coming out to say it.] That's exactly what I think we're dealing with and it's really annoying that our leads continue to evade us every week.
People are going to get sacrificed until we track the real source. The more people sacrificed, the more distrusting the rest of the ship gets. The more distrusting the ship gets, the more the demons have to work with. A vicious cycle, and one I'd like to not see happen.
Probably. Negativity harvests more negativity, whatever. If I were a demonic entity looking for a host, I'd slip into something easy that was already feeling less than great. It'd be more likely to go unnoticed.
[Well, she does give it an honest moment of thought.]
Where I come from, demons don't exist. Sure, what you're saying is in line with, you know, myth and shit, but I wouldn't say that makes it fact.
[Then again, she also sliced open a dude's throat and watched him come back to life the other day. Stop trying to understand, start trying to survive. Right.]
Demons don't really exist where we're from either. We have a different kind of monster called "humanity." [Chill out, edgelord.] A lot of things I've heard lately tie right into myth and legend which is even weirder than I thought.
We're not on Earth. I figured out that much. I still think we might be in the Bermuda Triangle or something close to it. [...] There's a lot here that does and doesn't make sense.
Could be both. That's the scariest part about all of this, we really do not know. And it's still so early that we're still in the process of finding out who is and isn't on our side. Who'll work together and who won't. Think about a normal situation. Do you trust people you meet right away?

[Talking shop is something she can do.]

[She wishes she had her lighter.]
Fantastic.

[And that she wasn't too far off on how this works, assuming they're on the right track.]
...Pump the brakes, are you saying distrust, what, creates more demons?

Makes sense, doesn't it?

[She gets his point, but also, this is giving her a headache.]
Well, someone had to have put us here. I'd still wager humanity is behind all this, not some demon.
