[So sometimes you take a halberd to the face and you're stuck with a normie farm girl who doesn't know what the fuck to do...

Katy leaves Beck in the laundry room just long enough to go track down Haymitch and Dick. They don't get much prep going in—Beck's hurt, it's bad, she might be missing an eye, oh god—but she'll lead them back to the laundry room as soon as they're able.]

Oh, um... There was a severed arm in the elevator.

[Said quietly to just Haymitch and Dick for now. Again, no need to worry Beck with that right now.]

[Katy's standing well back for all this, letting the boys take charge since, as she learned a couple days ago, her composure only holds up for so long. Freaking out over this isn't going to help anyone.]

The, um, the elevator was stuck on the floor with our rooms. We went to check it out, but when she opened the door, some kind of axe fell out. Caught her in the face.

[Belatedly realizing she left that shit at the scene too, so sorry everyone at trial. Also, it was a halberd, but Katy doesn't know war weapon terminology.]

[Whatever, they'll grab the weapon (and arm) later. It's the eye he's most worried about, but there's nothing to really do about that. Without looking away, he grabs a wet towel. Smooths it gently over her wounds, cleaning away the blood.]

You're all right.

[At least he sounds confident. To Dick:]

C'mere and see if this needs stitches.

We're gonna give you an eyepatch for that eye, and you just let it rest and heal. This coulda been a lot worse, Beck.

What kinda axe? Describe it.

[ dick moves over when he's called, i assume taking over haymitch's spot because otherwise it would be hard to See properly. he's got a hand on beck's shoulder, squeezing slightly as he uses his other one to gently push her chin so she puts it an angle he can see better.

It's too deep. Bandages won't cut it. Not to mention the eyelid... [ he's been frowning the entire time, but it deepens a little. i have no idea if you can use stitches on eyelids i am going off to google to see ] I've got painkillers, but nothing to numb the area. [ and, since higekiri told him-- ] Halberd was missing from the gift shop again.

[ so, y'know, once katy describes it. the possibility. is there. anyway, to beck, softer: ]

You still with me?

[The pain makes it hard to focus, but... She’s aware enough to hear Haymitch say it’s going to be okay, but that means she’s also aware enough to hear Dick say they’re going to have to give her stitches without numbing the area. She takes in a quick, unsteady breath, trying again to keep herself calm.

When he talks to her, though:]

Y-Yeah. I hear you.

Um, like a weapon axe, not a tool. Halberd sounds right. Do we know who bought it?

[...]

Right. You [she points to Dick...] get mystery items when you finish tasks, and Beck gets to choose between random items to send to people, or whatever. I'm in the loop.

[Just to get that squared away.]

Would ice help? I'll go get some.

[And she will head out to do that if it's a thing that would indeed help.]

Can't hurt.

[In the meantime, he goes to find something suitable for an eyepatch. They'll find her a proper one, but a temporary cover can't hurt. It'll keep her calm, too, to have something applied to her.]

I told her.

[Just as an FYI. But ah, actually, to Dick--]

What kinda tasks do you have to do, anyway?

[ dick like. gave haymitch the dirtiest look when katy spilled, so, y'know, he guessed. but-- he has priorities, and they are. beck. so, he moves his hand from her shoulder to hold her hand for a second, squeezing a bit before he takes out a bunch of garbage from his utility belt, like bandages, a suture kit, painkillers, possibly some other shit they might need. do i look like a doctor. ]

Junpei learned this week he shares a role with three others. Haymitch is one of them. He can check who people have spoken to as well as who they've had sex with. [ he doesn't expect her to like. really care right now? but he also fully expects she had no fucking idea haymitch knew anything because junpei is the worst. and, to answer haymitch-- ] It varies. First week was to help five people with their-- "dick or tit pic game". Then have a private conversation with five people I didn't know that well. This week, make five people buy something from the gift shop. Only thing they've got in common each week is that it's five.

[ is he even allowed to say that much about his role tasks. haha who cares they both know? anyway back to beck!!! ]

We're going to use the ice to try and numb you, but I'll give you something to bite down when I actually start. From experience, it won't be pleasant, but I'll be quick about it. Once that cut is taken care of, I'll try and see if I can tell how bad the damage to your actual eye is. I can't say anything certain for your vision right now, but it didn't go far enough that we'd need to remove the eyeball entirely.

[ i'm sure this is all very reassuring. to hear? ]

[Normally she'd comment more on all of that, but - well. As it is, though, she looks confused for a moment before she asks Haymitch:]

Junpei told you about me? But...

[Whatever the end of that thought was going to be, she's distracted by what Dick says. Because! That is sure a lot, and she looks pretty obviously frightened as he goes on. Still - she nods.]

I don't have a role, for the record, but it's good to know we've got some chance against all this shit.

[And Katy's back with the ice because time is fake. She hands it over to Dick since he seems to know what he's doing, and then moves to sit next to Beck, offering a hand to hold if she wants one.

This is gonna be awful to witness, but it'll be more awful to experience, so. She's here.]

Should we... you know, disinfect it?

[Please someone tell her that's not gonna be necessary but also, there's a liquor cabinet like right outside, just saying.]

[He stares right back at Dick, unrepentant.]

It's a game of telephone with those roles. Right now, Junpei and I've been collaborating. You know mine, I know yours.

[Glancing back at the cabinet, he goes to it and grabs two bottles. The higher proof one is for Beck; disinfecting can't be so bad. The other gets tossed to Katy. They've got a stash, but it never hurts to add to it.

He's also got a bunch of linen carefully bundled together. They'll tape it over her eye for the evening, til she can find or make a proper eyepatch.]

I have-- I didn't get a first aid kit to disinfect something by pouring alcohol on it again. I've got it covered.

[ HE HAS ANTISEPTIC WIPES I CHECKED HIS FIRST AID KIT PLEASE STOP TAKING OUT ALCOHOL,,, he is fully stocked. hes a doctor. (no) ]

And yet I'm pretty sure Junpei's collaboration didn't include a clause where you could tell Katy everything. He didn't even want to tell me about Beck's. [ he's saying all of this pretty matter of fact, and honestly he's keeping steady as he puts some ice on beck's face. he doesn't wrap it in anything because the idea is to completely numb it as much as possible. sorry beck ] No offense, Katy.

[ though dick. doesn't seem to care too much that she knows his, to be honest. ]

...It's okay.

[It's hard to tell exactly what that's in reference to, but maybe she just doesn't want them to argue right now. Either way, she's making a noise of discomfort and biting down on her lip as he moves the ice around the area.]

[She catches the bottle, but also gives him the tiniest look of criticism. Haymitch, please.]

You all realize I'm not a liability, right? And I'm not just his sidekick.

[She gestures to Haymitch.]

[He snorts, but only at the idea of Katy being his sidekick. She might not have his experience in some matters, but that doesn't mean all of them.]

I don't see how keeping it to ourselves does any good-- and even if it did, we're here now. Not really the time for shoulda or coulda.

Tell me when the ice is done. I'll tape this [the eyepatch] myself.

No one said anything about sidekicks. [ don't trigger him wow ] And seriously? Neither of you see how sharing everything when any one of us could be possessed at any time might not be the smartest move?

[ he sounds so dry right now, but since beck basically said not to fight, he'll. let it go with a sigh, and the next part is quiet: ]

No point taping her eye until I'm done stitching her up. It sliced through her eyelid. Tell me when you stop feeling your face, Beck. I'll stop a little after that.

[ i'm sure that's a very comfortable statement once more ]

[Okay, hm. While her face is getting rubbed with ice:]

Can you guys... Maybe talk about this later?

[Anyways.]

I can't feel it.

And keeping all our resources locked up tight is?

[She rolls her eyes, but lets out a sigh when Beck tells them to quit it. Fine, fine.

She'll do her best to watch as Dick does the stitches, though. Seems a useful skill to have around here.]

[They'll talk later, presumably. Instead: he sips his stolen alcohol and watches Dick go to work. He knows vaguely how this is done, but not well.]

Where'd you learn this?

[ yeah later is fine. dick is kind of busy going to work suturing beck's face, though he gave her?? something?? to bite down into. i forgot what i was going to use so now eli can decide. it takes him a few seconds to understand what Haymitch is asking. ]

I've been crime fighting since I was nine. I've been trained in a lot of things. No superpowers. Gotta make up for it somehow.

[ he says this like it's a normal thing to talk about a nine year old out on the streets fighting crime and people with superpowers?? he doesn't seem to have any issues talking while working, at least, and he's. clearly trying to do this as fast as he can because
